What Do The Coulerd Bands Mean

unmotivated? Officials are still working (add)

If students are unmotivated Quebec, the fault lies with the media played "a decisive role in the construction of this negative perception experienced by pupils and parents towards this reform (education reform)" . Such, at least, the finding which comes Godelieve De Koninck in his letter published in The Sun recently. Let me disagree with this idea.

Indeed, it should be noted that the number of students who get their DES has increased over recent years. It is therefore far from the climate of demotivation and failure described by Ms. De Koninck. Theoretically, more students succeed.

By cons, if I write theoretically, it is because, increasingly, we see that this success is often an illusion. Thus, the media began to reveal stories now where teachers are request to increase the scores their students to "pass". What then is this success? And especially that this school is in the eyes of young people who are not fooled by this charade? Is it possible that some of them drop out because the school itself and the network of education failed to demonstrate their relevance in recent years?

It is easy to blame the media and say they did not do "discover the good things of this reform and its necessity" . You should know that the proponents of this reform have benefited during the years of media support from the MELS and the school boards. We have lost count the money that was invested to sell the education reform through an army of public relations and press conferences. If it failed to get a good press, simply because he failed to fulfill its promises. Quite the contrary, he had so many pitfalls that his opponents had a field day criticizing. Must remember the saga of the ballots with smiling snowmen, delays in the drafting of disciplinary programs and so on?

Those who have proposed this educational revolution had the responsibility to conduct it safely. However, they have demonstrated incredible amateur and even today they are not even accountable about the whole mess. Worse still, some work still to MELS and persist in this path.

By imposing this education reform, not taking into account the realities of school, in not giving it the means of its ambitions by challenging teachers as if they were mere pawns, our educational policy makers have weakened the school system and completely disorganized one. It's more themselves than the media that should turn our eyes when we want to understand why young Quebecois do not have a good opinion of their schools and they are unmotivated.

And, let's add a layer : all deputies to the MELS, except one, received performance bonuses last year, a sign that we are satisfied with their good job.

The lamentable state of public finances of Quebec has not prevented the nine deputy ministers in the Ministry of Education, Recreation and Sport (MELS) to share, last year, no fewer than 113 $ 000 in bonuses, a jumped 68% in two years.

While MELS requires network administrators to school to tighten their belts, eight of the nine most senior officials of the department received in 2008-2009, a bonus of between $ 11 500 and $ 19 500.
